Golf Fitness Secret Revealed – Want To Lower Your Score?

By | Sep 2, 2010

Want to hit the ball further, play more golf and play golf without nagging back pain?

It’s important to be physically fit if you want to avoid injuries no matter what game you like to play. This is especially true for golf because the proper golf fitness exercises can improve your swing, lower your score, and help you avoid injuries.

Many golfers have found that utilizing a scientifically designed golf fitness program specific to the activity of golf has dramatically improved their endurance, swing speed, distance and flexibility.

Flexibility may be the single most important component of golf fitness. If your “golfing” muscles are tight you can’t achieve the full power of your swing.

Listen to what Tiger Woods has to say on the subject of golf fitness:

“…very flexible players … can generate tremendous clubhead speed while swinging in balance. That’s also one of the keys to my power. I’m convinced that if you increase your flexibility, you’ll add power to your swing.”

One of the techniques used by golfers to develop flexibility is stretching. This is a great way to help flexibility but not the end all. Especially considering the golfer may be doing their stretches totally wrong or not even working the correct muscle groups.

When you make a golf swing, you are generating lots of force on your body. Realize that swing speeds can approach 120 mph, and you must have a strong core in order to control your swing as well as protect your spine from injury. A strong core is a fundamental necessity for balance and control in your golf swing.

Do you fade on the back nine? Wayward shots? Legs tired? Mental mistakes? All a sign of lack of endurance. You want finish your round as strongly as you started it – and that comes with working the muscles responsible for endurance, the slow twitch muscles. Your golf fitness program should include both progressive and cyclical exercises that build endurance as well as speed and power.

Are you laying out cold hard cash every year on the latest training aids or golf clubs? Has your game improved? Are you getting that extra “20 yards” every new golf club promises? Of course not! Get a clue. It’s your body that is the machine that drives the club. It’s your body that directs and controls your golf game. Shouldn’t that be what you are investing in? If you aren’t building core strength, flexibility and balance into your game, you will never have the results you are seeking to achieve.

More and more golf pros and high level amateurs are living testimonials of what a good golf fitness program can do for your game. By developing better flexibility, core strength, endurance and balance they are staying competitive longer and playing in more tournaments. You should explore doing the same. Find a golf fitness program that is progressive and cyclical, specific to the muscles you use in golf and concentrates on speed, power, endurance, balance and flexibility and you will enjoy the same types of results. Longer drives, finishing the round as strong as you started it, lower scores and playing pain free.
